Endoscopy

Endoscopy allows a real vision of a cavity of the body by video image. The Veterinary Practice des Plaines-du-Loup is equipped with a wide range of "scopes" which allow, in dogs as well as cats, the observation of most anatomical cavities, small and difficult to access they are. Different names are used depending on the cavity observed.

We speak about arthroscopy when the intervention concerns a joint, laparoscopy when the intervention concerns the abdominal cavity, gastroscopy when it concerns more specifically the stomach, colonoscopy for observing different intestinal portions, and rhinoscopy for the nasal cavity, etc. Below is an explanation of some of these techniques.

ARTHROSCOPY

GASTROSCOPY AND DUODENOSCOPY

Gastroscopy allows a direct view of the esophagus, the stomach, and the beginning of the small intestine (duodenum). This examination is very useful for the detection of gastric tumors, for taking the biopsies required for histological analysis, and for the search and removal of foreign bodies.

COLONOSCOPY

Colonoscopy allows a direct visualization of the different lower intestinal segments: the rectum, the colon and the lower portions of the small intestine (ileum, jejunum). This examination is very useful for the detection of specific diseases such as chronic inflammation of the intestines (e.g. food allergy), intestinal tumors and for taking the biopsies required for histological analysis.

RHINOSCOPY AND BRONCHOSCOPY

Rhinoscopy allows direct view of the nasal cavity, trachea and main bronchi. This examination is very useful for:

  • the removal of foreign bodies such as plants inadvertently inhaled by dogs and cats,
  • the detection of tumors with the possibility of taking biopsies for histological analysis,
  • the observation of inflammatory or infectious foci with the possibility of performing bronchoalveolar lavage (rinsing by introduction and immediate aspiration of physiological serum, to capture cells and bacteria)

CYSTOSCOPY

Cystoscopy allows observation of the lower genital tract and bladder. It also allows for intrauterine artificial insemination using an uteroscope.

These different services are part of the usual practices at Veterinary Practice des Plaines-du-Loup. This offers a wide range of possibilities, in order to help your animal receive a rapid diagnosis and therefore the appropriate quality care it deserves.
